  • Youth of the World | Afrocats | Charity

    Youth of the World is our programme of work for young people so they can broaden their horizons. We work with children and young people aged 8 to 18 from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, in particular refugees and asylum seekrs. Our Youth of the World programme gives young people the chance to explore, grow, build new skills - and have fun along the way We work with children and young people aged 5 to 18, including those living in temporary accommodation, seeking sanctuary in the UK, or facing barriers due to their economic circumstances. We create opportunities for them to take part in activities and enriching experiences beyond school by building confidence, connection and a sense of belonging. 1322 children and young people 85% are Black, Asian or from the global majority 40% were living in temporary accomodation 10% are home schooled or not regularly attending school Over the past year we've worked with Services for young people We offer activities which include young people from marginalised backgrounds, help them to develop social and practical skills, and improve their wellbeing. Creative Expression Whether it's mark-making or hip-shaking, our Saturday sessions are full of creative energy and fun. We Lead Projects to level up leadership skills, develop confidence and empower young people to be leaders in their communities.     Afrocats is looking to engage with dance artists who want to develop and build their portfolio of work. You will work with refugee and asylum seeker women and families interested in cultural Dance styles from Africa, South Asia and the Middle East, and creative movement. We Are Looking for Emerging and Established Freelance Dance Artists Freelance Dance Artists Afrocats is looking to engage with female, male, and non-binary dance artists who want to develop and build their portfolio of work. You will work with refugee and asylum seeker women and families interested in cultural Dance styles from Africa, South Asia and the Middle East, and creative movement. This role will be: - Delivering a series or one-off dance sessions in many different settings. - Support and training, if needed, from Afrocats lead dancer. - Working closely with families, women and youth who are both new or have experience in dance. We are looking for someone who is: - Friendly, patient and approachable, with lots of energy. - A good communicator with people who speak little or no English. - Available on weekends and unsociable hours. - Willing to grow with Afrocats. Key Details: - We’d like someone to start as soon as possible with availability through to the end of December. - You will need to complete an enhanced DBS check. - The Fee is flexible and will be agreed upon depending on experience and negotiation.     We work with schools, community groups and organisations across Greater Manchester to deliver creative workshops that help children and adults explore creativity, culture and heritage.  We deliver creative and wellbeing workshops for schools, community groups and organisations across Greater Manchester We'll work with you to develop a workshop tailored to your needs. Black History Month Every October we deliver interactive and engaging workshops that celebrate African and Caribbean culture through art, music, and creative movement. Black History Month is a very busy time for us, so get in touch soon to see how we can work together. Arts and crafts We can adapt our art and crafts workshops to cover topics that support your interests, including: Recycling Nature Space Identity and belonging Cultural identity Cultural dance and creative movement Our two-part dance and movement sessions involve a fun and cultural dance session with African, Caribbean, Middle Eastern movements. This is followed by a relaxing and slow-paced session using varied choreographic techniques. Music and storytelling Using music, singing and storytelling, our workshops will help participants to explore different cultures, identity, and memory using: drumming singing keyboards And more! Wellbeing We deliver wellbeing sessions that aim to create a space for participants away from their worries, unwind and relax. We use a range of techniques including: Yoga Mindfulness Relaxation Working with schools Our engaging workshops for schools takes your students on a creative journey where cultural stories come to life. Volunteer roles Youth of the World Saturday Volunteer We are looking for volunteers to join our fantastic team and support our Saturday sessions. Volunteers will assist our Project Assistants and Artists to deliver with the workshops and support our children . Experience with working with children is essential, desirable experience of working with neurodiverse children. Full enhanced DBS will be provided along with travel expenses for each session.
